SpellingCity

SpellingCity is easily one of the best sites around for Spelling & Vocabulary.  This is a site used by educators around the world looking to help students learn their vocabulary and spelling words.  This is done by teachers using word lists to help enforce skills.  These lists can be custom made and even imported into educational games to help reinforce learning.  Also, there is an educational portal (i.e. student tracking, etc) and mobile app that allows students to learn on the go.

SpellingCity

SpellingCity w/out a doubt is my favorite site for Spelling and Vocabulary.  This is a great site w/ educational portal that allows educators to create word lists that can be incorporated into educational games.  These games are not only fun but highly engaging and help students learn their "words".  Also, an educator can track students, find an abundance of resources/videos, and even use it for mobile learning w/ a free mobile app  (iOS/Android).

Spell Up

Spell Up is a new game for Google's Chrome browser that I just found out about from Ozge Karagolu's wonderful blog.  This is a great voice activated game that uses the device's microphone as people try to spell out words.  Every time a word gets spelled correctly it gets stacked on top of each other (think UpWords).  As you get more words correct the game gets harder and harder and more features such as bonuses gets unlocked.  If a word gets misspelled the tower comes crashing down.  Also, this is a nice game for ESL students as a person can hear the word, the pronunciation, and definitions in different languages as they try to spell the word.

SpellingCity

SpellingCity simply put is the best site around for all Vocabulary and Spelling needs.  It even has an educational portal that allows for student tracking and educators to add assignments/word lists to their students.  Also, there is a free mobile (iOS, Android, Kindle) that interacts w/ the web portal to allow mobile learning for students.  SC also has a wide variety of resources and videos, but allows teachers to create their own customized word lists and integrate them into educational games for their students.

Quill

Quill is an excellent new site for working on proof reading skills such as punctuation and grammar that I just learned about from Richard Byrne's blog.  This site allows students to login and correct Reading passages that teachers have selected.  Best of all, Quill analyzes the results and shows students what they have gotten wrong w/ a walkthrough explaining the correct answer.

Letter Battle

Letter Battle is a super fun iOS app that I just downloaded for my kids to work on their Spelling skills.  This is a great RPG type game (grades 1st-4th) where a user can select their skill level and type of word (i.e. Science, School, Vacation, etc) to embark on an epic adventure.  Basically, it works like any turn based strategy game but uses spelling as the means of attack.  If a player spells the word wrong they will miss.  The goal is to defeat enemies, collect power ups, and advance levels as they complete their quest.  Best of all a educator/parent can create custom word lists to integrate into the game.
