WordWriter

WordWriter is a fantastic new learning tool brought to you by the award winning Web 2.0 Collaborative Writing site,BoomWriter.  WordWriter is a amazingly simple tool to use that uses BoomWriter's innovative collaborative process to help students learn, develop, and enhance their writing/reading and vocabulary skills.

The way this works is a teacher signs in (using the free BoomWriter portal for creating/managing student accounts) and selects the WordWriter tab.  The educator then creates a WW project and selects which students to assign the project to.  After that, a word bank is developed (batch upload feature still to come) by typing in a word that a teacher wants to reinforce and develop for those students.  From there, teachers can type instructions to help guide students on their learning.  Students then login and using the very friendly user-interface create short stories or sentences that best use those words.

That's it!!

The innovative BoomWriter technology highlights the words used so a student doesn't have to keep track of the ones they use.  Also, teachers through the educational portal can assess students and see which projects are waiting to be approved or revised w/ the ability to leave comments.

Finally, students through using assigned vocab words and completing the assignment as well as through BoomWriter's collaborative voting process can earn "Boomer Bucks" to modify their avatar/Boomer. This makes it highly motivating for students as they can develop their character and track how many times their projects have been voted on.

BoomWriter

BoomWriter is collaborative writing site that has students grades 3rd on up creating a digital book/story by writing a chapter and then voting on which chapter gets included in the finished product.  This process goes on until the story is completed and then it gets published and students can purchase their own book.  However, a teacher receives their first class copy for free.

Also, this is a great way for teachers to integrate Project Based Learning and technology into the classroom.  Educators have been using this around the world in many different ways such as for poetry, persuasive writing, and more.  Finally, BoomWriter has a fantastic collection of free lesson plans that shows how educators are using BoomWriter in their classroom.

Poetica

Poetica is a new (private beta) for collaborative writing.  This is a site where users can import any Word, PDF, or RTF file to edit w/ another another person in real-time.  It has really nice tools that allows two people to work back and forth and see all edit while working together.  This is great for Collaborative Learning, reviewing rough drafts, and more.

BoomWriter Storytellers Camp

BoomWriter is a company I've worked w/ in the past and love blogging about.  They are known worldwide for their innovative way to integrate technology into classrooms through their collaborative writing process.  Their site w/ educational portal (i.e. safe for students no email necessary) allows teachers/students to collaborative create a book, get it published, and then get a free class copy (or order their own).

Last summer they launched their successful online virtual Summer Writing Camp and are doing it again this year.  This summer they have two different writing courses for students, Realistic Fiction and Mystery.  Each camp is only 1 week long (5 days for $99) and a child can take both if they like (discount for more then 1 child), and receive 1 free published book of their own creation.

BoomWriter Poetry Month

BoomWriter one of my favorite web 2.0 sites for collaborative writing (in a safe and innovative way) has just released some educational resources ideal for Poetry Month.  They have a Poetry guide and activity pack that can be downloaded for free for registered users.  The activity pack comes w/ fill-in-the-blank poems that students can use to come up w/ their own unique take on the same poem.  Teachers can even use the Poetry lesson plan to create a collaborative poetry book and then get it published into an actual book.
