Otus

"Otus is an easy-to-use, yet powerful classroom tool that brings the best iPad and Chromebook education features together into one secure environment, and uses a single Google login."

I must say after reading this tag line I was quite intrigued to give Otus a look and it IS a complete mobile learning environment for schools.  Otus comes in two free iPad apps one for the teacher and one for the student.  Keep in mind when downloading it will state that it is a 17+ app and the reason for that is the built in browser.  However, a educator can monitor browser activity inside of Otus as well as a school should have a filter in place via their district policy (Although, it is widely recommend to view your students/child's browsing habits to make sure that they are not viewing anything inappropriate).  Also, a user (teacher/student) will need a Google account to login.

As w/ most Learning Management Systems (LMS) Otus allows educators to create classes, manage attendance/assignments/grades, poll students, and more.  They can create digital bookshelves to host all kinds of digital media (i.e. books, videos, sites, etc) and assess students in real-time.  The split screen feature allows users to take notes using any feature of Otus as well as taking notes during browsing.

Answerables

Answerables is a wonderful free site/app for Gamifying a lesson or Game Based Learning.  I like to think of it as a Learning Management System meets Game Based Learning.  This takes place in a safe interactive 3D virtual world, where students can collaborate w/ others, go on web quests, complete assignments, browse the web, and much much more.  Also, Answerables offers detailed reports for assessment as well as the ability to interact w/ other educators and even tutor in their innovative environment.

Answerables

Answerables is one of the most unique sites to come around in awhile.  It is a cross between a Learning Management System and Game Based Learning environment to deliver a innovative and fun learning experience for students.  All of this takes place in a 3D virtual world (i.e. think Second Life but geared towards education) that allows educators to create lessons, scavenger hunts, collaborate w/ other educators, and much much more.  Best of all, all of this takes place in Answerables safe interactive environment.  Also, Answerables can be used by any curriculum to teach any subject using Project Based Learning, "gamifying"a lesson, and differentiating instruction.

Oncore

Oncore is a new classroom productivity iPad app that acts as a Learning Management System (LMS) and helps differentiate, assess, and facilitate instruction.  This app allows educators to manage their classes and students and even create a custom seating chart.  Educators can take attendance, grade assignments/quizzes (on a 5 pt scale), track participation/behavior (similar to Class Dojo), and more.  Another nice feature is the ability to group students by similar abilities which makes it easier for teachers to visualize students learning and differentiate instruction.  Finally, Oncore is aligned to Common Core Standards and helps educators integrate them into their classroom.

30hands Learning

30hands Learning is an excellent company for creating an innovative LMS (Learning Management System) as well as a free iOS app that is ideal for digital storytelling.  The 30hands community is a perfect cloud based solution that allows educators to: manage/track students, hand in/out assignments, schedule events, and more.

The free iOS app uses a easy drag-n-drop interface to allow users to take or upload/draw images.  Once the images are uploaded they can then be dragged into any order.  Finally, a user can then record their audio to narrate a story.  It can then be saved to the users to device or shared into the 30hands Learning community.  This is an excellent free tool to integrate technology into the classroom that can be used by any subject.

ClassFlow

ClassFlow is a new site that I just found out about from Larry Ferlazzo's excellent blog that reminds me a lot of Go Class.  Basically, ClassFlow is a cloud based learning platform that teachers can use to create digital lessons that can then be viewed on any browser based device (i.e. laptop/tablet).  These lessons can contain all sorts of media such as: images, videos, and more, and allows educators to assess student's learning in real-time.

30hands Learning

30hands Learning is a company I've blogged about many times for their spectacular free mobile iOS app for digital storytelling/presentations... However, they also have a fantastic LMS (Learning Management System) that is an online community for educators and students.  This site "houses" all of the online activity students and creates an e-Classroom for students.

Educators can use this space to publish (public/private) to create courses, share lessons, assess/grade student projects, and more.  Best of all this educational portal allows for teachers to create and manage student accounts and share courses via a unique URL and login code.  This is a great way for educators to monitor student work, garner student feedback, and facilitate collaboration.

30hands the free mobile app has recently released a big update which allows users to easily upload a presentation to the "30hands cloud" via a tab/button.  This is a great for Guided or Fli
pped Learning as a teacher can upload a project/template and then have a student work on it at home.

I highly recommend checking out the 30hands Community by clicking here!!!

YuJa

YuJa is a new site that is ideal for upper education (HS/College) for educators to "house" their classroom content in a safe environment.  Basically, YuJa is a LMS (learning management system) where teachers can host real-time discussions, poll students, send out text messages, and best of all send out video broadcasts on any topic.  This is ideal for the flipped classroom model where learning takes place outside the classroom.
