EDpuzzle App

EDpuzzle the premiere site for flipping a lesson through video has just released a free iOS app.  As w/ the site this app allows users to take a video and easily "make it their own" by editing, cropping, adding narration and questions to flip a lesson or classroom.  Students can then view the video on their mobile device, answer the questions, and gauge their learning.  This is also a great way for educators to assess student's learning and differentiate instruction.

I highly recommend checking out the free EDpuzzle iOS app by clicking here!!!

Chronicle

Chronicle is a innovative new iPad that is ideal for classroom management, grading, assessing, note-taking, and so much more.  It is a educational tool that educators are using for harnessing their teaching best practice methodologies.  It is designed for educators to "Chronicle" each student through detailed and easy to use data by allowing educators to add multimedia (i.e. audio, video, images, etc.) content to each student's progress.  Teachers can customize notes and audio clips to each student, and assess students in real-time using a visual "traffic-light" design.  Also, it allows educators to integrate Common Core Standards and act as a grade book w/ an abundance of export features.

30hands

30hands is one of my all-time favorite free iOS apps for Digital Storytelling.  This is a simple app to use w/ a detailed walk-through that helps any first time user create their own.  Everything is done in a user friendly drag-n-drop interface that allows students to add/take photos, draw, and record narration to each slide.  Once the story is complete it can then be uploaded to the cloud via the free educational community 30hands Learning.  This is a great LMS that lets educators share their student work, assess them, and much much more.

Shadow Puppet Edu

I've been in touch w/ the people over at Shadow Puppet and excited to announce their new spinoff free iOS app for education, Shadow Puppet Edu.  This is an excellent easy to use app for Project Based Learning and Digital Storytelling.  Like the former app it has a drag and drop interface but w/ this new educational instance it allows for easier/safer searching and integration of pictures as well as no student email account to use.

Below is a list of their other features...
  • Make videos just like before combining photos, video clips, voice, text and drawing. Use up to 100 images, and make videos up to 30 minutes long. All limits/purchases on the consumer version have been removed and the app will be free for edu use.
  • Search the Library of Congress, NASA, Creative Commons, or generic web/gif search for awesome content to include in videos. A citation page is automatically added to the end of the video. We're super excited about the potential here in social science and science classes—our search tools make it possible to access and use amazing content from Library of Congress and NASA in a way we haven't seen any other apps do.
  • Common Core-aligned activity ideas to make it easy to get started using Shadow Puppet Edu in English, social studies, science, math, art and foreign language classes.
  • Controls to disable web image search. Parental gates for sharing and the ability to disable/enable those as well.

30hands V. 1.6

30hands the wonderful free iOS app for digital storytelling has just released a big update version 1.6. 30hands is well known in education for creating a easy to use mobile app for creating digital stories w/ the ability to import text and photos, as well as recording your own voice to add narration.

Here is more info regarding their latest update...

We also added 3 In-App purchases (99 cents each), which are very cool:
  • Dropbox integration: adding slides from Dropbox, exporting projects to Dropbox and publishing final videos to Dropbo
  • Video Clips: creating and importing video clips as slides
  •  High Resolution Publishing: standard is at 640x480, and you can purchase 1024x768 for better quality output videos

Dropbox integration is a great time-saver, sharing tool and backup area.
Adding slides from Dropbox allows users to easily access images that were saved from PowerPoint and other sources.
Publishing the presentation videos to Dropbox is a great way to get the videos to other places to share.
Exporting projects to Dropbox is an easy way to back them up and share them between users and devices.

Video Clips that are added as slides can spice up a presentation. They are limited to 21 seconds.

High Resolution Publishing is great for slides that have smaller words or details, especially when they are going to be zoomed larger for projection.

We are currently working on Google Drive Integration, which we will release as an In-App purchase.
We have a list of Free and Premium features that we plan on releasing to continue creating an even better product.

For schools and districts who want the premium functionality but do not want to buy using In-App purchases, we are planning to release a Paid Version that will include all In-App features. Schools and districts that are interested should contact us at sales@30hands.com or 781-982-9555, so we can work out a plan for this.

PiggyBot

PiggyBot is a fun free iOS app that teaches children about counting money and the value of money through a virtual allowance.  The way this works is an adult give them a set out of money and the child allocates on how they are going to: save, spend, and share their money.  They can also take pictures of items they want and upload them to use their "money" to purchase them.

Quick Key

Quick Key is an excellent free iOS app that allows educators to scan a paper test/quiz and then has the app do the grading.  The way this works is by snapping a pic of the quiz/test/survey (up to 30 questions long) and then app does the grading/assessment right on the mobile device.  It can then be exported into any electronic grade book and a teacher can track student/classes as well.
